At the end of July 2011, my brother and I had a conversation about all the news and images on Somalia and the drought/famine situation on the ground. We were both struck by the images and while he works for the United Nations, I wondered how I could best contribute to the situation in our homeland. Then it hit me after watching various news stories on CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, etc. I was disappointed by the constant negative focus on the plight of Somalis and the poor narrative being painted. I knew of Somalis making positive contributions but not of any source disseminating such information without any angle or agenda. I decided that it was time to put together a curated space where positive and productive contributions of Somalis and others interested in the plight of Somalis could be highlighted.
